On 1st May 2000, with formation of Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) the former Chemistry and Technology Division was disbanded. A new Engineering and Processing (E&P) Research Division was formed. The Engineering and Processing Division comprises three research units namely the Milling and Processing Unit, Biomass Technology Unit and the Energy and Environment Unit.
The scope of research and development of the Engineering and Processing (E&P) Research Division includes development of new, more efficient and cost-effective milling, refining and production technologies, improving productivity, minimizing waste and exploitation of by-products.
The Division also carries out research on downstream value addition projects in both the food and non-food sectors. Other important potential growth areas being researched are palm biomass utilization and projects related to energy and environment.
