Biomass Technology Unit (MPOB-UKM)

 

 

The research centre is located at Stesen Penyelidikan MPOB/UKM in Pekan Bangi Lama, Bangi, Selangor, is a one-stop centre for R&D on and commercialization of bio-composites from oil palm biomass, especially medium density fiberboard (MDF). The centre is equipped with an MDF pilot plant, material processing plants, material testing and fibre analysis laboratories, and a few analytical and bio-composite laboratories.

 

Operated by trained personnel specialized in wood-based R&D, the MDF pilot plant is able to produce a variety of wood-based panels and other products that are similar to industry-manufactured panels. Wood-based industries can benefit from the facilities and technologies offered by the BTC as the centre allows the industry to carry out R&D, process optimization and feasibility studies there prior to commercialization.
