COMMERCIALIZATION OF  OIL PALM FIBRES (OPF) FOR  CAR COMPONENTS

INTRODUCTION

Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has conducted  an intensive RnD in utilizing oil palm fibres (OP-Fibre) as filler in thermoplastic industry. Thermoplastic is a main raw material in manufacturing the plastic parts of the car components. Oil palm plastic sheets (OPPS) were used to manufacture  rear parcel shelf and dampening sheets.

Rear Parcel shelves  are currently  being used  in  6 different car models  :

Proton  Perdana  V6, Proton Waja, Proton  Gen2, Proton  Pesona, Honda  City and Toyota  Vios.

DAMPENING SHEETS 

  • Control noise, vibration & harshness (NVH) performance in automobiles

  • Act as a fixed absorber to reduce vibration caused by engine while  moving

  • Placed at the certain parts of vehicle (car floor, door & boot)

 

Oil palm fibre dampening sheets are now used in six different car models namely Hyundai Accent, Hyundai Elantra, Suzuki Swift, Mazda 3, Mazda X5 and Proton Preve.
