Palm Oil Mill Technology Centre (POMTEC)

The research and development of most of the technologies described were carried out at Palm Oil Mill Technology (POMTEC). POMTEC, located at Labu, Negeri Sembilan, was built using a grant provided by the government to spearhead research on all aspects palm oil milling technology. As Malaysia forges ahead with its plans to become a fully developed nation, there is increasing awareness of the need for palm oil mills to modernize. The day-to-day operation of this 20 tonne per hour mill is being managed by Sime Darby Plantation Sdn Bhd, allowing MPOB to focus its efforts on research. To ensure a commercially viable day-to-day operation, the mill mainly incorporates proven technology, with adequate space and other flexibility to facilitate research. Nevertheless, many innovate and state-of-the-art features were incorporated into the initial design to make this mill the ‘model mill’ for the palm oil industry in Malaysia.
