Advantages:
The industry is looking for an alternative renewable resources for the production of cellulose and oil palm biomass is one of the options. Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) has developed and patented the methods for the production of both cellulose and derivatives from empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibers and in 2008 has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Waris Nove Sdn Bhd on the production Carboxymethyl Cellulose from EFB. A commercial plant has been set up at Gebeng, Kuantan and now actively manufacturing the products. In 2012, Waris Nove has launched the production of commercial cellulose and CMC, during the MPOB International Oil Palm Biomass Conference.
